Life is filled with infinite opportunities for growth, opportunities to bring in more love, joy, peace, clarity and creativity. Opportunities to experience more freedom and connection with ourselves and the relationships in our lives.
The question is are you open and available to seeing those opportunities that present themselves to you?
Most of us if not all of us tend to step no further than what we have been thought and know, when it comes to self-development and healing, in other words looking after our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.
When life gives us something new or different, it makes us uneasy because we don’t like change and our beliefs are challenged. So instead of exploring or finding out more, it’s a big fat no. What we are doing is limiting ourselves
to the infinite possibilities of growth and healing that can take place.

On Friday the 7th I took part in the movement and sound meditation wit Orassy, the dynamics of this class were different to what I have experienced before, this was more than an evening class you attend. You become part of a community of individuals who support and lift each other up.

Movement and sound have been a tool of transformation on my own journey in ways you can’t even begin to imagine, as you
read on I will share with you the healing power of movement and sound. And, before you say anything I felt scared and uncomfortable too, my first few times.

All I had known was running, gym and weights. I had stopped drinking, so I felt very secluded and alone. I was in search for a more creative way to heal, release, raise my consciousness and also connect with myself and socialise with like-minded individuals on a similar journey to myself. I was out of my comfort zone, and I decided to commit because I recognized that the discomfort that was rising is showing me where I get to work on myself, and there was a lot of that. Dancing sober with men and women, expressing yourself freely use to bring up so much pain, judgement, fear, shame and guilt. More so I had never seen people move so freely and that is what I wanted FREEDOM! Little did I know at the time about the healing effects of movement and sound, little did I know it was a pathway to freedom and healing.

As you enter Orassy you are welcomed with friendly faces, sweet aroma in the air and a sense of calm with beautiful and inspiring art for decor, and a pair of slippers waiting just for you. As you walk down and enter where the meditation takes
place, you feel welcomed, you have stepped into the safe and sacred space of healing and transformation. What I loved about this class is that you can choose whether you engage in the movement or not. Especially if you’re a beginner, it helps because you can take your time to absorb, get comfortable and just be. Even though you might not take part in the movement, you are part of the beautiful, healing orchestra, the space that is created by the instructors, all the individuals taking part and the beautiful melody of the flute and harp, if you’re lucky like me, it might just happen that someone turns up with their drums, which really shakes things up. Here you are taken into a different realm of reality.
Movement is powerful because it brings awareness to the judgement within, which stems from our conditioning, it rises through feelings of discomfort and unease. As we surrender to the judgement within our mind, allowing our body to take the lead, challenging ourselves to step out of our comfort zone, moving in the discomfort, unease and resistance, being in the presence of what shows up without thinking this is how I shouldn’t feel or be, we release the judgement and the trapped, stagnant emotional energy (emotional baggage) we’ve been carrying around in our bodies, while practicing acceptance. Sound is also so powerful because it doesn’t only help with inducing relaxation and bring you into this meditate state, but also has a way of moving through areas of blockage. These energetic blockages (trapped emotions) can be located in our physical bodies, our energy bodies or both. These blockages can manifest into illness, disease, pain, they can influence our decision making, behavior and experience of life. Bringing sound and movement together really are one of the most powerful ways to heal.

This specific type of sound and movement meditation at Orassy, helps you connect with your body, through bringing awareness to what your body is feeling using breath and movement. Connecting with our body allows us to start building a relationship and understand the language our body is speaking. Most of us don’t even take into consideration to listening to our body, we lead from the mind, and that’s where the disconnect happens causing imbalance. We experience illness, disease, injuries, exhaustion and more. For us to lead a happy and healthy life, it’s important we work together with our mind and body, being in touch with your body will help you get in touch with your intuition. You feel more grounded, connected and balanced.

MY EXPERIENCE

As I mentioned above movement and sound have been a powerful tool which I’ve used on my own journey of healing and transformation. It allowed me to work through past trauma, release judgement and come into a place of acceptance within myself. Through shining light on the shadow, giving me the opportunity to practice being present in what’s showing up for me with compassion. As I like to say, dancing with my darkness.
I’ve been to various different movement events, and I was looking for something new and different, where I’m out of my comfort zone. This was it! I was excited to attend as this had live music, and it was focused on a more of a flowing, slow movement which was an opportunity to explore deeper depths of self-expression. I have found that where you are required to spend time in stillness, move and flow slowly and mindfully you are more aware of your internal experience and what’s rising above from within, so you are able to work through it and release it. The opportunity is there for those who wish to do deep inner work. With the option of whether you take part in the movement or not, it also allows you to stop, be still, meditate, explore your experience, to gain understanding, clarity and express yourself.
This was such a beautiful and transformational experience for myself, as it brought light to the opportunity where I get to practice being more present in my body and it allowed me to see the blocks to love, connection, freedom and my potential. Being out of my comfort zone, I found it more challenging to be present in my body and allow it to lead the way. I found discomfort rise and my mind beginning to run off with more judgment. What I found interesting also, usually when I attend movement classes I tend to wear quite feminine, flowy clothes, this time I was wearing a tracksuit. I found it restrictive and challenging to connect with the divine feminine within. More judgement rising to the surface, in a form of this little mean voice.

What I found so powerful was, in the middle of the movement everyone is welcome to express themselves also through sound whether that’s clapping, singing, snapping your fingers together or anything similar. Even though everyone expressed themselves individually, it sounded like an orchestra. For me I very much enjoyed it, but it was also a powerful exercise of surrendering to your mind (the little judgmental voice), and allowing yourself to follow your intuition, through expression and to be a witness of that process. The beauty of being on your self-development journey is, there is always something to work through.

As the class came to an end, there was a deep silence that happened so naturally. A moment to reflect, a moment to appreciate, a moment to be still. Before everyone got up, to go home or socialise there was an opportunity for everyone to share their experience. Which I always find very powerful because, even though you had your own individual journey, you also journeyed together. And, there is always so much you can learn from another people’s experience, which you resonate with.

To top of this class, at the end if you wish to stay there is an opportunity to socialise over some delicious food. You heard me right, and the food really is delicious! There is something for everyone. This is such a great idea and something I haven’t seen anywhere else. It really brings people together, and creates a space for people to connect with one and other. At most classes when it`s finished everyone just goes home, as people are shy or find it awkward starting a conversation randomly. Orassy really does know how to bring people together, and create a space where relationships can be formed.
